CIU gives improved security options to Boeing customers

Atlanta, GA October 2005 – Boeing (NYSE: BA) of Seattle, Washington, and AD Aerospace, a subsidiary of AD Group in Manchester, England, have signed an agreement that will allow airlines to enhance their aircraft security and safety by installing AD’s FlightVu Camera Interface Unit (CIU) to monitor forward-fitted cameras throughout Boeing 737, 747, 767 and 777 airplanes.

The optional FlightVu CIU will be linked to the flight crew’s Electronic Flight Bag (EFB), a compact computer that is built into the cockpit’s console.

The most common option is for a Flight Deck Entry Video Surveillance System (FDEVSS), with two-to-four camera positions, to cover the approach to the flight deck door and the forward galley areas. This enables the flight crew to confirm who is outside the secured flight deck door when entry is requested and to ensure that they are not acting under duress or that any potential threat is nearby.

Beyond FDEVSS, the CIU can receive input from up to 16 cameras enabling coverage of the entire aircraft. This provides for various systems offering different advantages to the airline.

AD Aerospace is independently incorporating a recording feature that will provide airlines with computer watermarked video of any incidents that can be used as court admissible evidence. This enables the identification and prosecution of anyone seen committing an offence; the images can also be used for training of cabin crew on how to deal with situations as they arise.

“We at AD Aerospace believe that video systems, and the CIU in particular, are an important addition to aircraft safety and security,” said Mike Horne, Managing Director of AD Aerospace. “Knowledge that such systems are fitted to aircraft reduces the risk of an incident taking place, and should anything occur, make it possible for it to be dealt with more quickly and remedial action to take place with more certainty.”

AD Aerospace Ltd., designs and manufactures aerospace video camera equipment, including state-of-the-art video security systems, it produced the worlds first aerospace certified video server in 1999. The company is part of the AD Holdings Group, which is the world leader in multi channel digital video recorders. AD Aerospace is a CAA/EASA approved designer and manufacturer of video camera systems for commercial aerospace, and an approved supplier to The Boeing Company. It has facilities in Manchester, UK; Atlanta, Georgia, USA; and Singapore. www.ad-aero.com

Boeing Selects AD Aerospace toProvide Video Monitoring on B747-LCF

Filed under: CCTV, Dedicated Micros — Allan. B. Colombo @ 12:30 am

Pilots can Observe the Status of the Main Deck Cargo on Their EFBs

October 2005 – Manchester, England — AD Aerospace has been selected by The Boeing Company to provide a video viewing system in the main deck cargo compartment of the forthcoming Boeing 747-400 LCF (Large Cargo Freighter). This will enable the crew to view the main deck cargo compartment from the flight deck.

The system will consists of a series of environmentally-protected cameras and a series of LED illuminators, strategically positioned within the main deck cargo area, linked via a camera interface unit to the Electronic Flight Bag (EFBs) used by the flight deck crew. Each pilot will be able to individually select a group of cameras on their EFB display and view the image from a selected camera.

“We at AD Aerospace are proud to have been selected by Boeing for such a prestigious project that involves two of the most exciting developments in modern aviation with the B747-400 LCF and its precious cargo the B787 Dreamliner”, said Mike Horne, Managing Director, AD Aerospace. “Video capability enables the flight crew of a cargo aircraft to view the cargo area without leaving their seats, especially important when as in this case the cargo compartment is unpressurised and not accessible during flight.”

Boeings 747-400 LCF will be used to transport the major sections of the B787 passenger airliner for final assembly in Seattle. The B747-400 LCF is itself a major feat of engineering with a cargo compartment that by volume is three times larger than that of standard 747-400s. The video system will enable this entire area to be viewed during flight.

Dedicated Micros to Protect Big Apple Residents

Filed under: Announcements, CCTV, Dedicated Micros, Homeland Security, e-News — Allan. B. Colombo @ 12:17 am

Chantilly, VA September 2005 — New York City Councilman Eric Gioia announced the award of the $2.25 million security initiative that will feature Dedicated Micros’ DVR units.

The 16-camera DS2 600GB units, with and without CD-R, were selected as the DVR of choice for the winning solution at the New York City Housing Authority.

The press conference was held at the Queensbridge Houses, the largest public housing development in New York City. Twenty-six buildings with 96 stairwells will require more than 250 cameras to be monitored by Dedicated Micros’ DVRs. The DVRs will provide coverage of the multiple entrances and exits for residents, including elevator cabs and perimeter locations.

According to a release from the Council of the City of New York, “one security camera system is already in place at Queensbridge, and cameras will be placed throughout the remainder of the housing complex in the coming months.”

The NYC Housing Authority is the largest in North America, encompassing 2694 buildings in 345 developments.

“When Mayor Bloomberg announced Operation Safe Housing over a year ago,” said Howard Marder, public information officer for the NYC Housing Authority, “he said that every New Yorker deserves to live in safe housing. He made a commitment to public safety, coupled with the support of the New York City Police Department, the Housing Authority, our residents and the courts.”

CCTV/security equipment distributors Elcor International Inc. of Fresh Meadows, New York, won the award after David Gonzalez, director of branch operations at Elcor International, developed a comprehensive security plan for the New York City Housing Authority. Gonzalez collaborated with Metro York Electrical Inc. of New York City, New York, the integrator who will do the actual installation.

“Councilman Gioia was successful in securing the $2.25 million of funding from City capital funds,” said David Gonzalez, director of branch operations for Elcor International, Inc. “The work will be done in two phases; one for the external cameras and the second for cameras in the elevator cabs.”

The DS2 units with internal CD-R will be used at locations where cameras are monitored locally. The standard DS2 units will be used to relay data across a network for remote monitoring.

“Initiatives like Operation Safe Housing display the determination of cities to cut down on crime before it begins,” said Don Taylor, vice president of marketing for Dedicated Micros.

Dedicated Micros RAID Protects G8 Summit

Chantilly, VA July 2005 — Dedicated Micros Inc. announces that Dedicated Micros in Manchester, England, provided two RAID (Redundant Array of Independent Disks) high capacity systems to the Tayside Police in support of the Force’s security commitments for the G8 summit which took place July 6 - 8 at the Gleneagles Hotel in Perthshire, Scotland.

The RAID units were used in the Tayside Police’s custody suite at the Force’s District Headquarters in Perth during the summit, providing a secure storage backup of CCTV images recorded on the Force’s existing BX2 digital recorders.

“As the lead force for the policing of the G8 summit it is important that we have the right CCTV systems in place,” said Sarah Craig, senior media relations officer at Tayside Police. “We are delighted that Dedicated Micros has been able to provide the RAID units at such short notice to ensure that the storage capacity we need is available to retain vital images.”

Tayside requested a RAID unit with six hard disks and 1.2 TB storage capacity, which typically provides 100 days of recording time in 24-hour time-lapse mode.

All Dedicated Micros RAID systems are pre-configured and tested at RAID Level 5, which automatically reserves a disk to store error-correcting information. The redundancy capability in the RAID system ensures that video from a failed disk is ‘mirrored’ onto one of the other disks in the system.

In addition, hot swapping allows disks to be removed and replaced without interrupting the system or causing a loss of information. For non-stop maintenance, the power supply and fan can also be replaced without the need to switch the unit off.

“We were delighted to be able to respond rapidly to Tayside Police’s request,” said Pauline Norstrom, marketing manager at Dedicated Micros. “The RAID units continue to be extremely popular with our professional customers, given their ability to offer additional storage capacity and the peace of mind that, in the unlikely event of disk failure, vital video evidence will not be lost.”

Dedicated Micros’ Parent Company Wins at Le Mans

Dedicated Micros is proud to announce that AD Group won in their class at Le Mans, with a TransVu mobile DVMR recording all the way.

Chantilly, VA June 2005 — Dedicated Micros Inc. of Chantilly, Virginia, announces their parent company’s win at the 73rd 24 Hours of Le Mans race, held in Le Mans, France, in June.

AD Group’ MG Lola EX264 racecar emerged victorious in the Le Mans Prototype 2 (LMP2) class after a barrage of equipment problems and failures.

Mike Newton, CEO of AD Group, and Brazilian Thomas Erdos, the two regular drivers of the MG Lola EX264, were joined by former works MG driver Warren Hughes.

Inside the MG, the company installed their own TransVu mobile CCTV unit, which captured continual digital image recordings for the duration of the race. The same, rugged TransVu unit is no stranger to racing, as it was used all last season in the FIA GT Championship. There, the unit had to withstand temperatures of up to 122 degrees Fahrenheit, underlining the ruggedness of the design.

For much of the gruelling race, all went better for the TransVu than for the racecar. By the end of the first hour, minor problems with the cooling system and gear change dropped the car to last place of the 50 entries.

By 9:00 a.m. on Sunday, seventeen hours into the race, the skill and determination of the drivers brought the car into the lead of the LMP2 class, with a two-lap cushion ahead of the second place rival.

When a bearing failed, the pit crew had to rebuild the gearbox in an impressive 45 minutes. The car dropped to fifth position, but the drivers were again undeterred. With three hours to go, they reclaimed second place and began to close the gap with the class leader.

Disaster struck again with just two hours to go when a rear suspension component failed upon braking, with the MG Lola traveling at around 150 mph. The car spun wildly out of control, just missing the wall on the inside of the circuit, then crossing the track and gravel trap, coming to rest inches from the tire wall on the outside of the track.

Erdos managed to restart the car, and the team’s mechanics were able to replace the damaged parts.

The car rejoined the race in third place. But by this stage, rival Courage team’s cars held first and second in class but both were suffering from engine problems. The Courage cars rejoined the race, but were unable to maintain a competitive pace.

With 40 minutes of the 24 hours left, Erdos swept past them to once again lead the class. He crossed the line at 4:00 p.m. to capture first place in the Junior Prototype Class.

“We are naturally delighted with this result, given all the heart-in-mouth drama that led up to our victory,” said Newton.

AD Group companies AD Aerospace, Dedicated Micros and RemGuard sponsored the race.

Dedicated Micros’ TransVu Wins IFSEC Award

Filed under: CCTV, Dedicated Micros, e-News — Allan. B. Colombo @ 6:15 pm

Chantilly, VA June 2005 — Dedicated Micros Inc. of Chantilly, Virginia, is proud to announce that the TransVu digital video recorder won the award for “Most Innovative International Security Project or Installation” at the prestigious Security Industry Innovation Awards held during IFSEC 2005 last month at the NEC in Birmingham, England.

The judges were impressed by the successful application of its TransVu mobile digital recorder on trains operated by Netherlands Railways (NS).

The railway turned to Dedicated Micros’ TransVu – specifically designed for transport applications – to conduct a mobile CCTV surveillance trial using 2 units to record 14 cameras in 8 8 Sprinter type trains on the busy Zoetermeer Stadslijn (City Line).

“We are delighted to have secured the Award for the Netherlands Railways project,” said John Goy, product manager for TransVu at Dedicated Micros. “The results from the Dutch trial of the TransVu system were extremely positive. Sixty percent of the commuter train passengers felt safer with digital recorders and cameras installed and vandalism fell by 45 percent. This success has lead to the expansion of the TransVu solution to every double train on the route.”

In addition to high quality MJPEG recording, TransVu has been recently enhanced to offer low-bit rate MPEG-4 transcoding transmission over limited bandwidth networks. TransVu is based on the innovative “NetVu Connected” software technology launched at IFSEC this year.

To underline TransVu’s capabilities, Dedicated Micros also took its powerful mobile CCTV system on the buses at IFSEC, following an exclusive deal which installed the units in vehicles that transferred visitors to and from the parking lots, showcasing live transmission of in-vehicle images to the Dedicated Micros booth via GPRS.

Featuring an extremely durable and compact design with a sealed recorder unit suspended via aerospace grade mountings to withstand in-vehicle vibrations, TransVu is ideally suited for installation in a wide range of vehicles, including taxis, vans, buses, trains and heavy goods vehicles.

TransVu is capable of multiplexing and recording up to eight cameras while simultaneously handling two channels of audio, responding to panic alarms, processing GPS coordinates via SMS text messages to instantly transmit its location to a central point and using intelligent power management.

Pacom Announces Next Generation Graphical Management System

Pacom Systems Announces Next Generation GMS 3.70 Graphical Management System with Over 100 New Features

Sarasota, Fla. – June 20, 2005 – Pacom Systems, Inc., a leading developer of integrated security solutions, announces the release of its new Graphical Management System GMS 3.70. The new GMS 3.70 management software offers over 100 additional features which will enhance the integration capabilities of any alarm, access control or video surveillance security system.

Pacom’s Graphical Management System (GMS) software is a Windows-based alarm management, access control and integrated video application. It offers complete control and real-time system status of all your facilities, anywhere, anytime. Programmable operating parameters such as alarm zone identification, redundant network channels and dial back-up capabilities, user and card access information, etc. are downloadable from any desktop PC via the GMS software.

GMS 3.70 introduces a higher level of integration to even more third party DVRs. In addition to integrating with the existing range of DVRs (March Networks, Dedicated Micros, Dallmeier, Intivid etc), GMS 3.70 now adds support for Integral Technologies, POS-Watch, Samsung and IDIS/Hitron/Pacific Communications/Ademco (IDR Series). This enables integrated video verification directly from within GMS and allows operators to view live video on demand and also enable automatic retrieval and display of recorded video in response to an alarm.

This new release of GMS includes an industry breakthrough in regards to reporting invalid keypad PIN attempts. How many times has a staff member claimed that they entered a correct PIN and the keypad rejected their attempt? A new option has been added to enable logging of the actual incorrect PIN that was entered on a keypad. When an incorrect PIN is used it will display immediately on the Transaction Manager and will also appear in reports so operators can verify the precise data entered.

Full integration with Schlage Wyreless Access devices adds another dimension to Pacom’s wireless capabilities. Configuration of the Wyreless reader interfaces is identical to that of Pacom reader interfaces – thereby providing a seamless transition for applications seeking wireless access control. GMS 3.70 also has the added ability to simultaneously support multiple WyreLess Panel Interface Modules (PIMs) on a single Pacom panel which makes the integration even more cost-effective.

Other significant GMS 3.70 enhancements include:
· Windows® 2003 Server support and the improved ability to take advantage of PCs with multiple processors such as the new Pentium® Xeon™
· Simultaneous communications with central stations and Pacom base stations to facilitate centralized access control and administration reports
· Support for up to 32 areas per panel that can be configured for alarm and/or access control
· Improved report auditing and configuration options for more efficient event review
· Optional GMS authorization password shut-down capabilities
· Site map enhancements which allow multiple icons per point to be dynamically displayed to reflect the point status
· And much more…(see www.pacom.com for more details on GMS 3.70)

“The security industry is continuing to evolve into a more dynamic market segment with higher demands for sophisticated solutions that offer greater integration capabilities,” said Andrew Minnikin, President of Pacom North America, “Pacom will continue to be a leader in creating new products and software to provide centralized management and administrative support for these advanced security solutions.”

Dedicated Micros DV-IP Server with MPEG4

Filed under: CCTV, Dedicated Micros — Allan. B. Colombo @ 7:37 pm

Chantilly, VA June 2005 — Dedicated Micros Inc. of Chantilly, Virginia, now offers their DV-IP network video servers with MPEG4 technology.

The MPEG4 feature provides streaming video while cutting the bandwidth usage by about one-third of the normal amount of bandwidth that is required for 24/7 viewing over the network.

The technology shrinks each digital image by changing the compression to create smaller files that use less space on the network.

Fully flexible, users can independently configure the DV-IP Server’s transmission image resolution, bit rate and picture update rate.

“Many people worry about video servers eating up much needed bandwidth during work hours,” said Don Taylor, vice president of marketing for Dedicated Micros. “The DV-IP Server with MPEG4 won’t slow down worker productivity on the intranet, or the network itself.”

Additional features on the DV-IP Server with MPEG4 include a spot monitor output to provide a visual deterrent that indicates a CCTV system is in place, tamper-proof alarms and an improved audio setting. The improved audio setting allows the installer to set the audio quality to best support the specific application. The default sampling frequency is set to 8KHz, but it can be enhanced to CD-quality to meet higher audio recording requirements.

About Dedicated Micros, Inc.
Dedicated Micros, Inc., which supports North and South America, is a wholly owned subsidiary of the UK-based Dedicated Microcomputers Group Ltd.
